Downgrading to previous OTA?

Post by fredekr »

I've read through the various threads and many seem out of date. I would like to downgrade from the newest firmware (1.33) to the previous version (1.21) because despite the "battery improvements" my battery life went from a consistent ~10 hours to ~4 hours. I use OSMand so somthing in the underlying system was modified.

Anyway, I can't tell whether this it is possible to revert to the previous OTA update. I have downloaded the 1.21 update but there are threads about OEM unlocking no longer available (definitely not shown on my device), etc.

I am comfortable flashing ZIP via recovery and using adb. If I edit updater-script to remove the version check, could I install 1.21 over 1.33?

The thread with the OTAs hasn't been updated recently because unfortunately no-one has passed on a captured OTA link. You need an unlocked bootloader to do that, so there are very few people with Karoos who could do that.

I'm afraid that without an unlocked bootloader you can't downgrade. HH very annoyingly removed the ability to unlock the bootloader some time back.

I've been moving internationally again so the Karoo is in the shipment together with my bike (cold turkey :( ). Around the end of the month I should ba able to grab an update again. Not that it would do much good for most people at this moment. Someone really needs to exploit their ANT+ stack or something to get root again, and I'm quite a bit out of my depth there.

I've been capturing OTA links with Wireshark, which shouldn't require an unlocked bootloader (it sits between the device and the internet on your computer). Can pass along a few images; dming you
