what apps did you sideload on the Karoo
What did you guys sideload on the Karoo other than Komoot and OsmAnd?
Re: what apps did you sideload on the Karoo
on top of Komoot and OSMAnd, I have Dropsync for the ease of getting .gpx file onto Karoo for OSM by drag & drop on the desktop.
Switchr for fast switching between HH's Ride app and OSM while on the bike.
plus a few games lol.

Switchr is a nice addition.
I actually went ahead and put Opera Mini Browser for the hell of it ...not bad. even youtube works fine.

Does Komoot work well? I use it on iOS sometimes and like it.
Re: what apps did you sideload on the Karoo
Yes it worked extremely well, just like it would on a full size Android phone, nice and smooth.
I have added "APK Installer", coupled with DropSync or Dropbox, I could now just drag and drop downloaded .apk files onto my dropbox on computer, then just sync across to Karoo and install the .apk directly on Karoo without the need to tether to a computer, I can delete the .apk after installation to save space.

I am wondering if anyone has tried sideloading something like BlackPlayer, and loading music on the Karoo for use with BT headphones or Bone conducting headphones. Would love to see if someone has done something similar and the results.

I haven't tried yet, but person above you installed Spotify, so any music player should work.

Google maps - easiest solution I know for looking up and navigate to places for everyday riding - cannot sign in to account but functional
OSMand - Karoo maps are OK, but this might be useful some day (has entire country loaded for offline use).
Whatsapp - my riding groups use this to communicate - really annoying that it can only be used on one device at a time and I have to log off/log on each time...
Opera Mini - gives me access to Hammerhead Dashboard and email (for those last minute gpx file transfers), Strava (a bit buggy though, might try full featured Opera)...
Opera - full version offers much better compatibility. Strava now fully functional
Dropbox - alternative way to get GPX files
File Manager - for managing these files, cleanup...
APK Pure - App repository in case I need to install other apps.
Nova Launcher
Switchr
Napster - a backup source of entertainment for the train, returning from a long bike trip, and my phone's batteries are depleted.

Spotify works because it streams music. menaing it's not playing music you placed on the Karoo. Although I placed music files in the music folder, two music player apps are requesting permission to access device folders and while you can press the Deny choice, the Allow choice does not do anything when touched. Same with TCCOmmander file manager. I can't Allow it to access anything.

No one has gotten a local music player working?SilverbakRacing wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 5:18 pm Spotify works because it streams music. menaing it's not playing music you placed on the Karoo. yes, I noticed it does that with many dialogs. you can simply use the 2 left side buttons to select different menu items and select/go back with the ones on the right side.SilverbakRacing wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 5:18 pm Spotify works because it streams music. menaing it's not playing music you placed on the Karoo. Re: what apps did you sideload on the Karoo
Could anybody try to install Locus Maps and/or GPX Viewer?
Re: what apps did you sideload on the Karoo
I finally tried now and it worked just fine. I sideloaded the F-Droid store and installed "Simple Music Player". "adb push album/ /sdcard/Music/" transferred the album and when the player started, it asked for permission to access media stuff. Worked in 5min

Re: what apps did you sideload on the Karoo
At first I had the same problem in different apps. Then I remembered that Switchr wanted a lot of permissions. After uninstalling Switchr every permission can be given again. Switchr is the problem!SilverbakRacing wrote: ↑Mon Jul 16, 2018 5:18 pm Spotify works because it streams music. menaing it's not playing music you placed on the Karoo. Re: what apps did you sideload on the Karoo
I've just got my new Karoo - previous one was dead after a ride in the rain and have played around installing Komoot and ViewRanger on it. Worked brilliantly - thank you to those that have provided the instructions - I'm a iOS user so it was an experience learning how to do it!
One question I have now:
I'm a big Komoot and Strava user. I have my Hammerhead recording the route to put straight into Strava but Komoot doesn't do that automatically. So....
Is it possible to have both running at the same time - ie Recording route in original Hammerhead software and using Komoot for directions? This would allow it to automatically upload into Strava when I've finished. Unless there's an easier way? If so how do I easily swap between apps?

Re: what apps did you sideload on the Karoo
It's definitely possible, I do the same with the HH Ride app and OSMand. Use HH's launcher to start the ride, the long-press the bottom-right button to choose your custom launcher and start Komoot. Switching is tedious as it is though, by double-pressing the bottom-right button and selecting from the app exposé. I just installed Switchr following a recommendation here, that should make it easier as long as the touchscreen works well (i.e. you're not sweating too muchRossA wrote: ↑Tue Aug 28, 2018 1:47 pm I'm a big Komoot and Strava user. Thanks - I found the double click yesterday and tested OSMAnd (what a great app!) and the HH Ride recording at the same time and it worked great. Thanks!
