Shimano forces removal of Di2 functionality from Karoo
So we are losing Di2 integration???
So after watching this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQufDU7EyMU it looks like we are losing Di2 Integration!
Do we think there is any way in the future the community could support the code/package and we could sideload it?
Even just the page-turning feature from a safety point of view?

Re: So we are losing Di2 integration???
This will really make me think whether it's still worth to continue using the Karoo. Not only does it not download the gear shifting detail info, but now the software "upgrade" introduces a complete loss of Di2 info and features.
I hope Hammerhead and Shimano get their shit in order and renegotiate whatever is needed to continue with the integration been both products.

I guess this is what happens when a product (Hammerhead) is acquired by another product's competition (Sram) : they remove features so that you are forced to use another product they have good ties with (Garmin).

Shimano's being dickheads,
I can't say I'm surprised.
At least it's nothing Franklin said,
They're just that kind of guys.
I really had my hopes up
That they would learn to play
But then I realized where I was
And that thought went away.
The great thing about standards
Is there's lots from which to choose.
When every one puts out their own ,
It's everyone who lose.

Re: Shimano forces removal of Di2 functionality from Karoo
I too am very upset about the pending removal of Di2 functionality from the Karoo 2. I have thus turned off automatic updates of firmware in my Karoo 2 while I track the development of this situation. My plan B is turning off the Di2 connectivity in my Karoo 2 while mounting an older Garmin Edge 510 as a second head unit programmed solely to display Di2 data. I do not use the Shimano brake hood buttons anyway as they are hard to press and the Karoo 2 is very responsive to simply swiping the display to change screens. I will lose shift count in this process as shift count is not supported in the Garmin Edge 510. The current Hammerhead browser user dashboard includes shift count on all rides backdated to when Hammerhead added recording Di2 data to the FIT file. I presume Hammerhead will no long record Di2 shifting data to the FIT file after loading the June 2nd firmware update, and I will also assume that shift count will be eliminated from displaying in the ride data in the Hammerhead user browser dashboard. I will curtail doing any Karoo 2 firmware updates until the relationship between Hammerhead and Shimano is repaired or the number of new Karoo 2 features outweighs the loss of Di2 functionality, whichever comes first.
Re: Shimano forces removal of Di2 functionality from Karoo
Anyone know a good Shimano email or web form to provide feedback? I know it wont change anything but as a customer who spent a lot on Di2 I want to share with them that they are not hurting anyone but their customers.

I am particularly devastated that this functionality has been removed as it was one of the main reasons I went for Karoo 2 only 4 weeks ago. Just got new Shim 12 speed di2 and the operability of the device with the shifters and front and rear mech was really really good.
This is a deal breaker for me and the Karoo2 will be going back.

Re: Shimano forces removal of Di2 functionality from Karoo
I purchased a new road bike last year - a No. 22 Great Divide Disc. Exquisite machine. I was really stuck between SRAM Red eTap and Shimano DuraAce Di2. The Red had wider gearing (46/33 x 10-36) and no wires. The Shimano had me as a happy customer for 20 years and the ability to page through my Karoo screens with the buttons on the shifter hoods. That was definitely a draw for me. Untimately the better gearing and cleaner look of the Red won out.
The SRAM has been flawless. But I've secretly wished I had the shifter controls for my Karoo. This announcement from Shimano would have been a tough pill to swallow had I gone with the Di2.

hi guys,
good news, an app was developed to override the Shimano decision to stop DI2 Karoo2 compatibility. Gears, battery ratio, commands, etc are usable

It appears that when one product (Hammerhead) is acquired by a competitor (SRAM), certain features get removed to encourage users to adopt another product from their network (Garmin).
