Hi I have sideloaded Strava (from APKPure) and a few other apps. Strava is not loading and there is an error message that Google Play Services are required. I see in the forum contents that people have loaded it before. Do you need Google Play Services or is there a work around?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Gareth

Re: Sideloading Strava
It may no longer be possible to do so on v1 of the hardware (at least on current versions of Strava), may work for older versions of Strava or on v2 hardware.
If you have v1 you could ask hammerhead support if they will be upgrading Android on the v1.

Re: Sideloading Strava
Hi - Thanks for your answer. I am using K2. I was able to use ADB on a Chromebook (using Linux Beta) to install APKPure on K2 and with that I have installed Zwift Companion, SRAM RED AXS App, MyFitnessPal and Strava. (I like the core Hammerhead apps so no extra mapping apps for me)
Strava says that it won't run because it relies on Google Play Services. I did a web search and I have seen this complaint ("needs Google Play Services") in other (mostly BlackBerry) forums. In these forums (karoousers.org) I see some people mentioning that Strava is running and I am wondering if they have a workaround or if they have installed Google Play Services. I'm not sure I want to go that far to be able to kudo people without taking my phone out of my back pocket but I also think of it as a challenge so maybe I will.
Thanks in advance for any info,
Gareth

Re: Sideloading Strava
I have not been able to install the Zwift Companion app from APK Pure. I have tried different versions (in APK Pure you can select older versions). Would you be able to let me know which version does work on your device?

Looks like isn't possible anymore to use Zwift Companion on Karoo 2, here why.SteelIsReel wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 7:57 pm I have not been able to install the Zwift Companion app from APK Pure. ZC version since V3.39.0 require Android 9 in order to be installed, so if Hammerhead do not upgrade the Karoo 2 OS (Android 8.1) you cannot install those newer versions.
Last version you can install is V3.38.0 but there is a major problem here. When you perform a login on ZC it will check for newer versions through Google Play, then oblige you to upgrade the app. I done it on my phone and worked fine.
Problem is that on Karoo 2 you do not have Google Play so the app try to load it indefinitely. If you had it, it will not let you upgrade the app as the OS is older than the requested.
So the only way to use ZC on Karoo 2 would be if Hammerhead release an upgrade of the OS. I don't know if it would feasible or will impact heavly the overall performance of the device
