Using Karoo 2 for indoor training ONLY with power meter

Post by albinn »

Hi,

I have a pedal based power meter which also gives cadence, and a dumb direct drive trainer with fixed resistance.

I would like to use the Karoo simply to register power, heart rate and cadence over time, my intervals.

When I have tried this, selecting the pre-defined "Indoor with power" mode, the resulting fit file does not register the time and power. I guess the Karoo is still trying to register the GPS movements and since I am not moving it does not save the information. I've turned off autopause.

How do I get the Karoo to understand that I do not want to log any distance or speed, but simply my power and other data over a timeline?

https://www.strava.com/activities/6347980335 see attached for example. This training was around 45 minutes and I could see the data on the Karoo continously during the session, but no data is saved afterwards.

Thankful for suggestions! :)

Same question! Hopefully someone knows.

Random thought…Have you tried turning off GPS or turning on airplane mode?

You might need to add a cheap wheel speed sensor or something. Strava may reject the "ride" because it's 0 miles? What does the Karoo/HH dashboard show? Have you tried downloading the FIT file and putting it into another service (TrainingPeaks, Golden Cheetah (an app not a service), etc.) to see if anything got recorded there? I would think the power numbers should be in the FIT file, but perhaps nothing knows how to display it properly without either a GPS track or some sort of indication of distance traveled?

Mine works OK using Mangene cadence and speed sensors.
$25-30 for a pair on eBay. reliable stable, battery lasts >a year
I had to disable the Karoo GPS, which gets distance priority otherwise.

So used to doing it manually ,I haven't noticed if the new profile settings would do that for me .

July7,2022 update also:
QUOTE:
- We’ve fixed a bug with Indoor Profiles that could cause them to have a single line of GPS data at the beginning of the FIT file, causing them to upload improperly to 3rd parties (e.g. Strava). Now, Indoor rides will be 100% GPS-free.
