Re: Improving Karoo through the use of Android Apps

What exactly did you do? I just adb-pushed an exported GPX file from the Dashboard to

Code: Select all

/sdcard/Android/data/net.osmand.plus/files/tracks
and it worked fine. Maybe you copied it somewhere else and are having a permissions problem?

Re: Next update postponed until Dec 20th

Speaking of which, the ATG releases don't permit downgrades by any chance?
Would be cool if any ATG member would let me borrow™ their device serial so I could monkey around with the images

Re: Auto elevation calibration

On my Garmin 520 I had many elevation problems. Especially when I made a cake stop for about 30 min. and all of a sudden, clouds or bad weather would start coming in and with it changes in air pressure. All of a sudden during my cake stop I sunk like 300 feet into the ground. That makes sense. I do...

Re: Root Karoo?

I've made quite some progress since I started hacking on the Karoo again yesterday. The way I see it, the most promising way is to trick the Karoo into downgrading its firmware to a version (1.5.75.3 or earlier) that still has the "OEM unlock" option to open the bootloader. By now I can impersonate ...

Re: Battery problems

I just completed my first ride with that version yesterday. 6h with 3 ANT+ sensors, BT on all the time (I had a BT headset connected for navigation for about 2-3h) but WiFi off and cellular only for an hour. Finished with 34%. Hope it doesn't hit me later ...

Re: Pre-release 1.5.305.3 Notes...

Do you know if you can use the demo (http://demo.traccar.org/) as the server if you're just interested in tracking a single device? I'm haven't tried but the description for the Android client does read like it should be possible. Tracking a ride via OSMand worked well with my own server yesterday....

Re: Pre-release 1.5.305.3 Notes...

It would be nice to use the info the Karoo has to inform the family at home where you are at the moment. You could get the Traccar client from F-Droid and either use their service (it's not excatly cheap thogh) or run your own server, it's all open source. It's pretty easy to install if you have so...

Re: Setting up OSMand for Cycling

Thanks, my pleasure :) I know, that zooming out thing is pretty annoying in this situation, especially when you know you'll need to add multiple waypoints in a small region, alas I don't think it can be disabled. I just made my first build of OSMand from the official sources; maybe I'll get as far a...

Re: Setting up OSMand for Cycling

That's a good idea, Paul! I just installed a screenshot app so I'l give it a try (never mind the non-sequential timestamps, I just noticed some of the screenshots I took yesterday were crap so I redid them today ;)): So I'll start with our regular rider's meeting point at Joma café that I have saved...

Re: Sensor List

I got a CooSpo BK8 Speed & Cadence sensor working flawlessly. That's one of those super cheap Chinese devices, picked it up on AliExpress for $20 or so. Only tested ANT+; it does BTLE as well but as my only other sensor (Wahoo TIKR) supports ANT+, too, I didn't even bother to activate that on the Ka...

Actually as per the standard they may as well have a case-sensitive local part, although in practice I don't know any site that does this. Re: what apps did you sideload on the Karoo

I'm a big Komoot and Strava user. I have my Hammerhead recording the route to put straight into Strava but Komoot doesn't do that automatically. So.... Is it possible to have both running at the same time - ie Recording route in original Hammerhead software and using Komoot for directions? This wou...

Setting up OSMand for Cycling

One often mentioned and very sensible choice for replacing Hammerhead's pitiful attempt at navigation software is sideloaded OSMand. However, this app has hundreds of options and can be a bit overwhelming to set up properly if you haven't used it before so I put together a little guide how to get th...

Re: Karoo is a Paperweight

Hammerhead are fools not to have exploited the full potential of this product and it's such a shame. I need a bike computer to accurately record ANT+ data and offer realistic and reliable TBT. This device does not achieve these requirements and I'm not prepared to cycle through Eastern Europe witho...

Re: what apps did you sideload on the Karoo

No one has gotten a local music player working? I finally tried now and it worked just fine. I sideloaded the F-Droid store and installed "Simple Music Player". "adb push album/ /sdcard/Music/" transferred the album and when the player started, it asked for permission to access media stuff. Worked ...

I'm just going on my first tour using OSMand. Got the GPX imported from Komoot like this:

Code: Select all

$ adb push 2018-08-05-MUC-export.gpx /sdcard/Android/data/net.osmand.plus/files/tracks

Re: Draft Guide: Install Google Play Services

I'm trying, but no luck so far. "Volume down" (lower left button) while powering on gives you what seems to be the standard MTK recovery menu -- in Chinese, like in this video . Unfortunately it doesn't have any option to install a stock firmware :( However, it looks like selecting "Recovery mode" f...

+1, very interested and definitely going to try! I didn't say anything yet because I was still on holiday and couldn't have tried it anyway but I'll get my hands on the Karoo again early next week ... Hmmm. Agree. I’m sure they are making running improvements on their outgoing testing and incoming componetry. Re: Improving Karoo through the use of Android Apps

Sorry for the late reply - out of town away from the computer. I don't see any real impact on battery life. Osmand doesn't seem to effect it at all. No app is running the GPS, that's on the OS to do and it provides position data to apps that ask for it. So once you have the GPS on, I think that's w...
