We instinctively add on new features and fixes. Why don’t we subtract instead?

We instinctively add on new features and fixes. Why don’t we subtract instead? ‘Less is more’ is a hard insight to act on, it turns out. From today's Washington Post. Bike intro https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/04/15/psychology-innovation-subtraction-addition/ It's a UX issue. Think OSX W...

Re: White lines matter

The release notes are nice, but you don't have to be deep into TLDR land to miss connecting a lot of the dots, or follow all the lines They seem to have plenty of time to fawn over some bewildered triathlete with a video , but not a YT showing off their update work. It's not like interns are hard to...

If they have an insert on the bike side , yes.
otherwise you would have to get creative, like the mod for the Quadlock.

Re: Can Garmin Survive ? Bosch COBI challenge

The Bosch Cobi.Bike looks like the PAN for ebikes using a cellphone as CPU with Android and iPhone integration. I am just now diving in, but it looks intriguing, and the type of system that could pull a lot of things together. Working well is another matter. Hmmm This kind of thing continues making ...

Re: Question for users: start button

Thanks for the DCR review link.
Some great writing and analysis.

the line :
However, for someone that just wants to go out and ride, some of the value prop is lost.

captures a lot of the experience with it and the Karoo's 1&2 struggle with UX .

Re: Speed Sensor Error

It might help you to get the FIT file tool and compare a known run with the two set ups. That's the first thing HH would ask you for, when you ask Support. Frankly it's essential to find where the presumed bug is. Could be in the software, but sensor, GPS and radio issues could do it, too. Comparing...

Encouraging engagement

Since the FB page made me swear not to troll HH, I have become exhausted trying to get them to become more transparent and public about the inner workings and their logic in feature development . I have tried everything. I think it is important in dev process of a constantly evolving product. Questi...

External battery

The Garmin external battery pack has a nice mount, but otherwise pretty $$ for an external battery. The issue it raises is how to cable an external power pack to address the battery life issue for the small group that needs loooong rides and for failing bats that are not replaceable. The USB/C ports...

Re: Upload error

But we are much nicer. And our answers are searchable. The newer software has toggled the upload button that is at the (scroll down) bottom of the end of ride page to not upload by default on occasion. You might check that . Updates often reset some defaults and add new options , that you get to dis...

Re: Can Garmin Survive ?

Personal Area Network . Sorry . Single stable coordinated use of central system. Think of the Apple universe at its best, and what cars have moved towards. Opposite of multiple single use devices that do not talk to each other. Look at how Apple devices put a MFi ID code in cables and wont accept no...

Re: Can Garmin Survive ?

There is a need for a stable PAN ( Personal Area Network) for bikes. HH is competitive in the race, Garmin the 800 pound gorilla. Garmin is plagued by the need for legacy support and drags a huge liability in that. HH is newer and fresher. Or has been.... I think that there is concern over the patte...

Re: 3D Printed "Bits"...?

Duggy, do you trust the printer structurally to make a stressed part? Especially given the failure rate of the old and re-engineered K1 mounts, with their exploration of tougher plastics. I give hard earned, even if ill got, monies for my farkely ornamentations, and am ever saddened when they leave ...

Re: Re routing DASHBORD ROUTING QUESTION

I have a DASHBORD ROUTING QUESTION: When building a route, it is road bound, not allowing so much as a curb jump without roundabout road rerouting. When I try to take one of my many shortcuts, the "router" sends me off of many a merry jaunt through town. God help me if I wanted to cut thou...

Re: Garmin Tempe

Not that Garmin seems to put out much on this, but the Tempe is ANT+ and there is an ANT+ temp sensor protocol. The Karoo1 has a temp sensor, and details are not given other than it is board mounted for ambient temps though it is on a board deep inside with electronics that can warm up some. mine se...

Nope it ain't you. I was off a few days and now sensors are all wonky. Changed batts, repaired , restarted. I'm gonna ride with my MMR and my phone rather than waste time rebooting and resetting. :-( Not pairing, then some pairing with dist not speed off the sensors. Later ed hours worth of debuggin...

Re: Can Garmin Survive ?

I think the YT helped explore the industry wide issues that both face. I read the Garmin stock investor reviews at Morningside and their SEC stuff which , while dense and "corporatese"at times , discusses how their bountiful core business in consumer GPS unraveled, and how they are focusin...
