Re: My Karoo Test Journal

It's odd-- in general, Strava will prevent duplicate uploads-- but probably around once a week, I get a ride where I rode with myself, and Strava takes both the Karoo and the 520 uploads together. The numbers for power will generally be within a watt. In true Karoo fashion, I put in 50+ miles yester...

Re: My Karoo Test Journal

10w average power might be considered "significant" depending on your training and what you were doing. Might be the difference between zones you were trying to hit. Plus, the over 200W number always looks better. :) Well, that comes down to whatever math the different sites are using-- Garmin Conn...

Re: My Karoo Test Journal

It's been a minute since I posted in here,but today was so good an example I had to update. Edge 520 / Karoo Moving Time 2.09.03 / 2.09.11 Distance 35.40 miles / 35.59 miles Avg. Speed 16.5mph / 16.5mph Elapsed Time 2.13.05 / 2.12.51 Elevation 1,220ft / 1,227ft* (Strava corrected to 1,339ft) Weighte...

Re: My Karoo Test Journal

Haven't updated in what... almost 6 weeks? That's because the Karoo is pretty much trouble-free now. It doesn't lose sensors (the Garmin does a full aphasia moment and loses everything about once an hour,) TBT works, and I have absolutely zero issues updating and downloading map sections. Complaints...

Re: broken mount ( 5th time !)

I'm sorry, but at some point, a little blame has to fall on the end user. I mean, " Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, but expecting different results." Five broken mounts? I would have changed something... well, before the first one broke. As soon as I started reading about broken brac...

Re: My Karoo Test Journal

That past couple of rides have been excellent on battery life, like 9% per hour. Auto-pause is still fudgy, but it's at least fudgy in both directions-- it will sometimes delay at stop for 6-7 seconds, but then delay on restart for 4-5 seconds, so the net loss is only around 2 seconds. This morning ...

Re: My Karoo Test Journal

First go on the pre-release 1.5.143, it's a mixed bag. Battery life seems slightly improved, but auto-pause and elevation are absolutely terrible. The Karoo was showing ~750ft of ascent at end of activity, but the same FIT file shows 908ft of ascent in GPXSee. The Garmin tallied 880ft. Auto-pause di...

Re: My Karoo Test Journal

This morning, no changes whatsoever-- 23% battery in 2h2m... so like, 25% better than Monday? Boggles the mind.

Also perhaps of note, the Journal may indeed get more interesting-- I've been selected for the Advanced Testers Group. Currently loading 1.5.143.3

Re: My Karoo Test Journal

Yeah, the battery life is an issue (for me) simply because it is so wildly inconsistent. During this morning's ride, the Karoo gobbled up 43% of the battery in 2h41m. That's terrible. Seeing as the day before it used 18% in 1h45m. I'm okay with 12% per hour with everything on. That works. But I can'...

Re: My Karoo Test Journal

Turned adaptive brightness on just before this morning's ride. Battery consumption just below 12% per hour, better than I've been getting lately with adaptive switched off. Go figure. I do think I'm going to join the ranks of "do a factory reset after each major software update." I had never done a ...

The post-reset long test

Just a few short days after the Karoo deciding to forget how to be a bike computer, I made sure everything was charged up and headed out on what I knew was going to be a very long and hard day. The Karoo did well. Battery life was quite good, I plugged in the battery pack at just short of 6 hours, w...

Re: FreedomPop sim card

Mine stopped showing data usage on or before 6/19, and started showing usage again 6/29-- after I had to do a factory reset. By 6/29 the Karoo was averaging 16% battery per hour. I'm not saying they're related-- my ride on July 4th was right on 10% per hour all day-- but what I'm saying is if you no...

It's... alive?

So I left it sitting until it powered off. Plugged it in, allowed it to reboot, and did a factory reset. It's strange what it remembers and what it forgets. Initially, it wouldn't download offline map sections, so I tried downloading one without resizing the little square-- that worked. So I have li...

TEST JOURNAL: SUSPENDED

That's it. I'm done. On June 29, the Karoo scarfed down 40% of the battery in one hour and died mid-ride. Today, it performed normally through the 25 mile ride, and when I hit save, it collapsed in on itself like a dying star. Now no pages will respond. I cannot log out of my account, I can't open h...

Re: My Karoo Test Journal

Well, yesterday was 28% battery in 1h45m, so it seems to be getting even worse. It's 14-16% per hour with adaptive brightness off. Maybe I bumped the slider on the pull down and I'm at like 100% brightness? I genuinely only just thought of that right now. I need to go through all my settings, I think.

Re: Speed Sensor Refresh Rate

I'm confident enough in the stability of the Karoo to let it fly solo... but until the Karoo has a kJ datafield and Strava Live Segments, the Garmin stays on as wingman. I've only had to use the Garmin for upload once in about 6 weeks, and that wasn't even the Karoo's fault, really (speed sensor bat...

Re: Speed Sensor Refresh Rate

Provided I remember to do so-- tomorrow I will re-activate my Garmin sensor on the Karoo, and pair my Wahoo to my Garmin, and see how the ride times line up. The performance with the Wahoo sensor has been excellent lately, maybe they fixed the Garmin? Anyone else try the Garmin sensor lately?

Re: FreedomPop sim card

Ever since the SIM was activated, it has been 100% trouble-free. I never have to mess with it. Uploads always work, and there's no issue with turning Cellular Data off and then back on during rides. I usually switch it off whenever I'm going into the mountains where I know there's no cell service, b...

Re: My Karoo Test Journal

Auto-pause is working better than ever, the temp seems... pretty good, I've had nothing in the way of sensor drop-outs, but the battery life... so, so bad. My ride on Monday used 64% of the battery in 4 hours. That's the worst battery life I've gotten, and this time I didn't even have adaptive brigh...

1.5.105: 2 steps... sideways?

Updated first thing this morning, and out for a typical ride. How'd the <HH> folks do this time around? Edge 520 / Karoo Moving Time 1.50.09 / 1.49.30 Distance 34.50 miles / 34.31 miles Avg. Speed 18.8mph / 18.8mph Elapsed Time 2.54.57 / 2.11.31 Elevation 1,076ft / 971ft* (Strava corrected to 1,174)...
