Re: Hmm.... Garmin 530

Dobbell, If you know of any other potential fans of the Karoo I"m willing to sell mine for under $300. Seriously. Also, the Sigma Rox 12.0 can be used with the touchscreen or buttons. I'm not sure why it's not getting more attention. Many features and works well. Amazon has had it priced anywhere fr...

Re: Hmm.... Garmin 530

If you're looking for a non-Garmin that's appears solid and has excellent navigation give Sigma's Rox 12.0 a try. I've seen it on sale a few times for $100 off, making it competitively priced as well. I started this cycling season using the Rox 12.0 and been happy so far. I'd forgotten what it's lik...

Re: Looking for a Karoo within Europe

Interested in buying one from the States? I assume it could be valued at a fairly low amount for taxes and shipping is hopefully not too much so long as you don't want it overnight.

Re: Bad news about battery drain...

I don't mind them taking the time to get things right. What I think is bad is that they keep doing these 2-week sprints where they don't get things right. 2 weeks is simply too short a time for a release. ATG testing alone should be for at least two weeks. Also, they should provide a way to roll bac...

Re: Auto elevation calibration

I verified with HH support: Both WiFi and cellular (SIM card) internet connections can be used to call the service to get an elevation from a location. So now that I finally understand how "automatic" calibration is working I'm curious: Has anyone given it a try as intended? Specifically, at the sta...

Re: Auto elevation calibration

I too think what they did makes sense. GPS altitude readings are inaccurate. Initial barometer readings can also be inaccurate due to weather changes, etc. But GPS location readings are accurate. Consequently using the GPS location to look up the altitude in an on-line database (see https://www.free...

Re: Auto elevation calibration

I just finished a long dialogue with HH support about this. Ashish from support said: - Auto-calibration only takes place 1)At the start of the ride. 2)If WiFi is active. - When auto-calibration does occur it is based solely on the GPS coordinates (I assume they do a query to a server that has eleva...

Auto elevation calibration

Does anyone understand how this works? Does auto-calibration just set the elevation at the start of the ride based on barometric pressure? Does it do anything else? After the elevation is set at the start of a ride, either via an auto or manual setting, will the # of feet/meters of ascent/descent be...

Do you know if you can use the demo (http://demo.traccar.org/) as the server if you're just interested in tracking a single device?

Re: Pre-release 1.5.305.3 Notes...

Has HH ever changed the software to fix bugs between when it's released to the early testing group and the general user community? I'm just curious because there have been some serious bugs, such as the blank screen one in the last release, found during testing but then not fixed before release. I w...

Putting a waypoint on a dashboard bi-directional route

Has anyone found a way to distinguish between an outgoing and incoming part of a route that overlaps? The route appears as a single line, even though I'll be traveling two different directions on that line. I'm trying to put a waypoint on such a route and I see no way to pick the direction of the ro...

Re: Pre-release v270

Nothing about fixing the battery drain when paused that was introduced a couple of releases back? If that's not fixed they should drop the feature that allows HR etc. to be monitored while paused - it's definitely not worth the 25%+/hr. battery usage I was seeing.

Re: Right Switchr usage?

Thanks Alx. I couldn't find a way to download the Amazon app store (Amazon was asking for my mobile phone number) but finally found it here: https://amazon-appstore.en.uptodown.com/android. A couple of other questions: - I did as you suggested with Switchr but still did not have Osmand show up as an...

Re: Right Switchr usage?

Just curious: How did you get OsmAnd+ loaded? I have OsmAnd loaded and then purchased the plus version from Amazon, which may have been a mistake because now I can't see a way to load the plus version I purchased. Is there a way to simply get the apk for the plus version?

Re: My Karoo Test Journal

I wish I could agree with you. On the positive side, I have had my Karoo, alone, for a while now. It has worked well for what sensors I have (HR and cadence) and elevation and speed/distance seem accurate. However, I have not been able to do any mid-ride routing, using my SIM card. That was really t...

Re: Latest update - Karoo essentially DOA

John, I agree their software development looks like it is a mess. I've been doing software development for decades and the patten I see of them introducing new bugs almost as frequently as they fix old ones leads me to think that they've made some fundamental development mistakes. It's likely, as yo...

Re: Latest update - Karoo essentially DOA

My uninformed opinion: The number of people who have had their problems fixed by getting new hardware is very small. The number of people who have TBT/routing/etc. problems that change from release to release is not so small. Often the problems are random but I know at least some that were simple an...
