Re: Boot animation - any success?

:D Maybe it's just me but I still expect that peacocking arrow to finally penetrate the big Ohh every time I see it - in any case Mr. Freud would have had a field day with that animation. The previous one was way cooler. So yes, I feel you, but yes, it needs rooting, and as far as I know nobody has ...

Re: Suggestions for Bluetooth speakers/headphones

I used Anker SoundBuds before until they developed an issue and sound too effing awful even for TBT instructions. They're cheap, waterproof and have OK battery life; they're in-ear but if you use the smallest rubber bits ( and have bigger ear canals of course) they still stay in well and don't block...

Re: Uk Map update

I never use the satellite view on the HH dash so I didn't notice right away: there are simply no overlay ways on that view, but when you switch to Cycling View, the streets are pretty much all there so the routing should be fine. If there's a routing problem, it's not one of outdated maps. You could...

Re: Moving from Garmin to Karoo

Did you find Osmand to be reliable? You mean stability-wise or regarding maps? It's not flawless but pretty damn good. I've seen it crash maybe once every couple of months of daily use. Even though the integrated navigation has been making good progress recently (I just forgot my headphones today s...

Re: Sideloaded Apps Not Updating

Sounds like an APKpure problem. I just updated Osmand via F-Droid this morning, so I don't think HH changed anything about the OS that would block such updates. What with the launcher showing sideloaded apps for a few months now they seem to have turned rather more sideloader-friendly.

 That's definitely a good reason I totally forgot about. I can imagine that can make some roads much less scary for you.
But then the lack of an audible warning from the Karoo is not a problem anyway ;)

Re: Garmin Varia Radar Support

I don't get the idea of this radar. I mean, I have ears, right? If traffic is so heavy my sense of sound direction isn't enough, the radar would be alerting all over the place anyway, whereas if I'm on a lonely country road with a vehicle passing by every couple of minutes, I can hear them. Above li...

Re: Moving from Garmin to Karoo

There a quite a few Android apps for live tracking that you can sideload; I've tried with Osmand only so far. Regarding custom data fields you're out of luck though, such a thing isn't possible right now. It wouldn't be hard I guess, as long as all you do is munge existing sensor data, but I suppose...

Re: There is now offline routing on Karoo.

I just tried it this morning, seems it's still a ways off from real offline route creation although the hardest bits should be done. What it can do is that you long-press any point on the map and then click the little cyclist icon to be routed there, but the route disappears once you close the bar t...

Re: Improving Karoo through the use of Android Apps

For the audio, I use my Aftershokz BT headset (bone conduction - nothing in your ear) and it works perfectly. TBH I didn't even know about this technology before. I found one of those (Vocalskull Beyond5 -- supposedly completely waterproof and a lot more affordable than the waterproof Aftershokz mo...

Re: Use Karoo as a hotspot?

I haven't tried but as the OS infrastructure is all there, a third-party hotspot app should be perfectly able to set this up even though it's missing from the settings. I don't have my Karoo at hand and I don't remember what app it was exactly but for quite a few settings I've been successful with "...

Re: Setting up OSMand for Cycling

Is there any way to execute a payment method to load more than the limited number of free off-line map selections into OSMand? When I try tapping a purchase button, nothing happens. Is Google Play required? Yes, that would be the reason. Did you get OSMand from APKpure or something like that that m...

Re: Hidden "feature" in 1.66.645.3...

Strangely enough, last week's update was the first one ever that gave me any battery weirdness. None of the bugs people reported ever affected me, and now I had a ride where I started at 80%, it was down to 50% relatively quickly and then turned off. After I switched back on, it came up with 25% and...

Re: ATG Release 1.54.624.3

In my mind, the Karoo should be able to enable/disable sensors automatically based on a profile. I guess I'm assuming that there are battery gains to be made if the radios aren't constantly searching for sensors that will never be attached? I do this manually right now. What other use does the bike...

About that map file, did you make sure to rename it to something-dot-sqlitedb?

Re: Garmin Vs Karoo update

Nightmare: That would be the development nightmare if Garmin were to decide to switch to a new OS. I actually think they have to be giving this some serious thought. Their operating system is old and proprietary with all the problems that go with that. FWIW I looked into the possibility of writing ...

Re: ATG Release 1.54.624.3

The bike profiles, while OK, are really only a start and barely scratch the surface of what should be included, notably a way to "attach" certain sensors to certain bikes and have those enabled/disabled as a result. That's pretty high on my list for an improvement to that function. Right now, it's ...

Re: ATG Release 1.46.620.3

I'm unclear. With this latest release, do you still have to reload all of your sideloaded apps after installing a Karoo OS update, or is eliminating the need to reinstall sideloaded apps (rather than just displaying them on the home screen once reinstalled) what this update accomplishes (if it work...
