Re: Garmin Vs Karoo update

I have a slightly different take on this. Garmin is loaded up with tons and tons of features - mostly computationally based. So if you're into optimizing training data - there is so much you could drown in it and most of it I would never use and probably don't even know what it means (and I have hig...

Re: Karoo back on track ?

It looks that Karoo is going back in a positive direction. (Software Build Version: 1.42.600.3) Because i have less problems. Tbt Works most of the time now. I hope that they get the basics fast stable, so they can continue on the timeline. Sometimes it was hard but i keep believing in this product...

Re: ATG Release 1.42.600.3

I’m betting the size issue you note is because the files apparently come down as zipped compressed files and are expanded on the Karoo. I noticed after it finished downloading it said it was “unzipping” them. Yeah, that's it for sure. And I suppose the reason for the faster downloads is that they c...

Re: ATG Release 1.42.600.3

I downloaded 4 US states very quickly. There are detail issues where they overlap. The real test will come when their entire user base tries to download maps all at once. May make sense to at least wait a week. No way to really predict how that goes.

Re: Improving Karoo through the use of Android Apps

I'd doubt it. I think it's going to be a very low level OS issue (i.e. the stuff that HH had to do to interface Android to their hardware), a hardware issue with the fuel gauge circuit or it's software driver, or an issue with the batteries themselves. What you could do though, is run Accubattery (a...

Re: TBT Returns

There really is little to no risk since you don't get root access to the Karoo - HH disabled it. That means you can't really damage much (although Karoo can do it's own expert job of doing that all on it's own). I wrote a guide on how to do it and included some backup and restore scripts. I'm an eng...

Re: TBT Returns

Yeah, that part of the reset should happen automatically as part of the update. I sideload both Osmand and Komoot. With either of those as the nav system the Karoo has no peer in the bike computer market for navigation. Using breadcrumbs the Karoo works fine. If you want cues, get a small BT speaker...

Re: Karoo on the naughty step

Then it’s probably that they used some no-name Chinese battery which will be all over the place in spec compared to if they had spent a little more and used Sanyo, Panasonic or Samung (far and away the best). See if you can return it for another unit. If it’s variance then maybe you lucknon on the n...

Re: Karoo on the naughty step

Yeah, me too. I live in Minnesota and ride my fatbike all winter at temps down to 0F/-18C and have never seen anything to indicate cold impacts battery life or reboots. That’s not to say it isn’t happening, but I’m thinking of it was any kind of a problem, I’d see it. I do think there is either a cr...

Weird. I never got it but I did get a note saying "Why haven't you filled in your survey?" So I did since it had the link.

Me either. I think my comment about “accessorizing” my Karoo with an Elemnt might have done it. ;)

Re: Can't add ANT+ sensors

Hope it works. A couple of times it’s worked for me when the settings reset didn’t. I don’t think they do a very good job of managing their own memory and scrubbing it sort of forces that cleanup.

Re: Can't add ANT+ sensors

I’d try a hard reset which is similar, but more rigorous, than a factory reset. There are some nomenclature issues with the name of the reset. I’m calling a factory reset the one in the settings menu. A hard reset is the one where memory is scrubbed and is in this link although they also call that a...

Re: Priority sensor list bug ?

More importantly, every other computer handles this directly WITHOUT a priority list. And they do data integrity checks to make sure the data makes sense before they switch to the gps sensor. Personally, I think this priority list was a quick fix around their problem. No user should have to manage s...

Re: Hammerhead Funding

They've just announced some more funding. I'm still hoping for investment in software. See https://techcrunch.com/2019/03/07/hammerhead-seed-funding/ Their blog says that’s pretty much what it’s for. For Karoo users, this means a deeper investment in the Karoo’s software development, opening up the...
